Description:
United States History is more complex than many textbooks would have you believe.
In this high school course, students will explore major themes and questions the US has grappled with throughout its existence. What does it mean to be “We the People”? What is our country’s place in the world? How do we coexist with the paradoxes of our past? These questions have existed for over two hundred years, and remain unanswered. Students will spend this year analyzing how we know what we know, and developing the skills to seek their own answers. They will view history through many perspectives, including historically marginalized ones, to learn that humans are never simple. Memorizing names and dates is not our goal. We will journey together using creative projects, discussions, and hands-on experiences to create learning you will actually remember.
During this course, students will see that history is far from dead, and not at all over.
