At Empowered Scholars, we envision a vibrant online learning community where students of all backgrounds and identities are embraced and empowered to succeed on their own terms — through authentic, relationship-centered, equitable, and accessible education.
But what does that mean?
Not every student’s needs are met in traditional school models. There are not enough safe spaces for marginalized students. Teachers are trapped in cycles of endless testing, and cannot create authentic curricula that connects with students. Empathy, critical thinking, and evidence-based learning are being sidelined as the push towards AI-generated curricula is furthering misinformation and social isolation. Families can see these problems. More and more parents are interested in homeschooling, but don’t know where to start.
In 2025, our three founders—Jen, Andrea, and myself—decided that enough was enough. We needed to be the change that we wanted to see in education. We know that online education is the right choice for many students. It eliminates barriers and offers needed flexibility. We reject the position that online learning cannot build social-emotional skills; we have seen learners thrive in remote environments, forming lasting friendships and communities. Our program may be young, but our decades of combined experience have taught us what effective teaching looks like. Now, we want to offer that expertise to homeschooling families.
